Pour la première fois, une grande exposition consacrée à Louis XV (1710-1774) se tiendra au château de Versailles à l’occasion du tricentenaire de son sacre afin de faire connaître ce roi dont le règne et la personnalité demeurent encore méconnus. Seront évoqués l’enfance du roi, son éducation, son entourage et sa famille, ses passions (sciences, botanique, chasse, architecture) et leur influence dans la politique du royaume. L’engagement du roi pour la création artistique sera illustré par des chefs-d’oeuvre de l’art rocaille, ce nouveau style libéré de toute symétrie et règle formelle ayant bouleversé l’art du XVIIIe siècle.
