L’orchestre des médecins européens (EDO) a été créé en novembre 2004 par Miklos Pohl, chirurgien plasticien à l’hôpital Saint-Georges à Londres qui a eu l’idée, en s’inspirant d’un orchestre de médecins australiens, d’un orchestre proposant à tous les médecins d’Europe de se réunir lors de week-ends pour jouer ensemble, en reversant ensuite les bénéfices des concerts à une cause médicale caritative. Constitué de médecins venant de toute l’Europe, notamment du Royaume-Uni, l’orchestre réunit habituellement 70 musiciens et joue deux fois par an : une fois au Royaume-Uni et une fois ailleurs en Europe. En 2020, La Folle Journée de Nantes l’invite pour la deuxième année consécutive à venir jouer en France et les bénéfices seront comme l’an passé reversés à l’Institut de Cancérologie de l’Ouest.
